THE ADVENTURES OF KAROL IN HIS HOMELAND
PART SECOND
POLAND
1979
When he was chosen we couldn`t believe
We were all like this Tomasz
We pinched our cheeks for joy
We were not embarrassed to cry
It was necessary so that to come
To stay at least for a while in his homeland
He visited his Wadowice
And the place of Maximilian`s martyrdom
1983
During martial law it wasn`t easy
Our Pope suffered with us
He spoke cautiously and paused
Where we wanted to shout loudly
During these times Mr. Urban began to count
How expensive are these arrivals
That Poland cannot afford such great
And unnecessary waste
1987
A breakthrough year of many hopes
It`s probably then on Westerplatte
Spoke our Pope to young people
So to protect important matters
In Gdańsk he stood on a beautiful boat
Never has such a strange ship been created
It`s like ark in which a nation would stand
In the midst of a flood
Then the Pope began to call
To our consciences and patriotism
In Radom the wind picked up his chasubles
When he defended conceived life
1991 – June
This time was the time of catechism
“Thank God, do not quench the spirit”
In each town point by point
He patiently taught the old commandments
Perhaps the most diligent pilgrimage
On eastern borders he stayed for a long time
I know, because I was ordained at that time
I looked with admiration at the Mass in Białystok
The Pope very special made this city
He raised Bolesława`s to the altar
He called this a City of Mercy
And established a new diocese here
In Łomża was Pope and in Olsztyn and Płock
He hooked up some saint places
And everywhere he patiently explained to Poles
That one defeat is the way to a larger one
1991 – August
Our Karol invited like to Kana
Unbelievable crowds of young people
He made our Częstochowa famous
He made Poland famous for the all world
1996
For a moment he looked into Skoczów
Such a very short stay
He wasn`t with us for a quite a long time
The Pope was already limping he seemed old
1999
Despite the tired look
He made an incredible effort
Again he visited the eastern border
He was in Drohiczyn in the field with crosses
He was in Wigry, in Ełk, then in Siedlce
In Łowicz the kids besieged him
He fell and beat his forehead
He wasn`t in Błonie, went to Gliwice…
It was said that they are sentiments
We have never experienced so much
He spoke when he was silent and silently spoke
The nation has finally integrated a little bit
2002
Contrary to many fairies the Pope has arrived
To dedicate the Church of Mercy
Perhaps he looked for a moment to Tyniec
He hinted that he would come back again
Some believed it would be so
Traveled delegations to Rome
Limp like rubber, sloping
He was the reason for many stupid rumors
About that he would abdicate
That he can`t speak clearly
And only the sick understood
The most emphatic speech of gestures
